Books read in May

Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus
Orson Scott Card - 416

This was a great story about a world that could have been. I love that here Columbus is a good guy, the story does not make him out as the evil white conquering man. This was a lot of fun to read.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1)
Rick Riordan - 392

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2)
Riordan - 304

The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 3)
Riordan - 336

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 4)
Riordan - 368

The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Book 5)
Riordan - 400

Thanks goes out to Brad R. for introducing me to this series a few years ago! I have really loved these stories. And as glad as I am that the series has concluded and I am not on the edge waiting for the next one, I would still like to see more of Percy and his friends.

Breaking the Silence
Jersey - 89

The conclusion to the online story that I had been reading. The author tied the whole thing up nicely.

The Memory of Earth
(Homecoming Saga Vol. 1)
Orson Scott Card - 332

The Call of Earth (Homecoming Saga Vol. 2)
Card - 352

The Ships of Earth (Homecoming Saga Vol 3)
Card - 384

Earthfall (Homecoming Saga Vol 4)
Card - 384

Card is one of those authors with the Midas touch, I love his books, they are imaginative, they make you care about the characters and he is always true to his characters. This series is no exception. The books are somewhat of a retelling of First and Second Nephi in the Book of Mormon. They tell the story of a family that had been commanded by the Oversoul to leave the city, create a haven in the wilderness and eventually leave the planet of Harmony altoghter to return to Earth. If you are looking for something fun this series does provide. I will admit that I have had a harder time getting into the last of the series Earthborn as the characters are new ones and the story is set farther in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed Pastwatch. It's one of those books that I wish would just keep on going. Or at least more characters from Pastwatch go out and do more things to make things better. Although that wouldn't exactly be possible, because everything they do could possibly change the future so they wouldn't even exist, but still. I would enjoy more Pastwatch stories. Have you read Lovelock?
