When I was pregnant with Arabella I kept waiting for one of the girls to ask either where do babies come from, or how do they get in their mommies tummies, however, no one did. I asked them one time where they thought babies came from and they responded from mommies tummies and that was that.
Well tonight MacKayla decided to ask "how do babies get into mommies tummies?" I wanted to be as honest with her as possible without giving too much away so I was thinking for a second. During this time James begins to discuss cellular mitosis to her. Wonderful answer, except you have to at least know what a cell is, so she was lost. So we sat and talked for a little while and gave a VERY basic idea of how babies are made. I was telling her about eggs and how all girls have eggs in their bodies that can grow and become babies and she looked at me quizzically and asked if the eggs hatched, it was cute.
After discussing how babies got into the bellies, she wanted to know how they got out. Annika started laughing and said "the hospital uses a big knife and cuts them out of the mommies." They have seen my scar and they know that for me babies are cut out. So I went on to tell her how babies come out, her eyes got real big and then she just rolled over and started laughing, the idea was of course preposterous to her.
Ah the innocence of youth...

I'm for the cellular mitosis bit! Nice. I also loved visual of her laughing as she rolled around on the floor thinking you were really telling her something funny. Kids are so great! That's a pretty big question and it is always funny to hear how kids take it when they hear!
When I explained to my then-4 year old the 2 versions of how babies come out, and that I would be having her brother the c-section way, she told me that that sounded WAY better than the other option and she wanted to have her babies by c-section too! Kids are hilarious! (By the way, I'm Heather's friend and I found your blog link from hers. I heard your cheesecake is amazing, so I came to get the recipe!)
Wow you are a better mom than I. When my kids asked at that age we just told them the doctors took the babies out at the hospital!
Abbie said once she heard she'll only have one baby and thats it! Now she always tells me she's just going to adopt because having a baby will hurt too much.
Ohhhh, I love it. Yep, babies sure are cut out of bellies here too. I can't wait until Abigail asks. Silly James and mitosis.
Dang - I was going to tell you bonitinha's story but she told it herself! You have to love the birds and the bees!
Yes we have had this talk many times. but the other day in the car Breanna wanted to know what happened when the egg cracked!!!!! So I had to tell her a little more information. If I ever do have another baby there will be no way around this subject at our house!!
